Esther B. Nicholl

Esther B. Nicholl passed away in her one hundredth year at the Gunnison Living Community in Gunnison, CO on March 2, 2010.

Esther was born in Butler on September 15, 1909 to the late Irvin Romack and the late Charlotte Collingwood Romack.

She lived in Ellwood City until 1957, when she and her late husband John N. Nicholl, Sr., after selling Nicholl’s Bakery, moved to San Diego, CA before settling in Colorado in 1968. Since moving to Colorado, she and her husband spent time in Loveland and Canon City before they moved to Montrose in 1980. There she was active in her church, the women’s club, and the Montrose Senior Center, where she volunteered. She continued to live in Montrose after her husband died in 1982. In late 1999 she moved to Ruidoso, NM to be close to her son John and his wife Janine. In 1993 she moved to Gunnison to be near her daughter Joan Tutor and her husband Charles and their family. She lived independently until she became a resident of the Gunnison Living Community in 1997.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers: Paul, Loyal, and Carl Romack.

She is survived by her son and daughter: John N. (and Janine) Nicholl, Jr. of Montrose, CO and Joan (and Charles) Tutor of Englewood, CO. Five grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren also survive, as well as her sister, Frances Hensley of Anchorage, AK.

A Celebration of her Life was held Thursday, March 4, 2010 at the Community Church in Gunnison, CO. Local services will be held on Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. in the TURNER FUNERAL HOME of Ellwood City, Sixth Street at Park Avenue, with Rev. Dr. James Durlesser, pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating.

Interment will follow in Slippery Rock Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Wayne Township.
