Mary E. Cello

Mary E. Cello, 91, of Northview Estates, formerly of 711 Summit Avenue, Ellwood City, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday morning, January 16, 2010, at the Ellwood City Hospital.

She was born in Connellsville, PA on November 13, 1918 to the late August Lashinsky and the late Mary Butz Lashinsky.

She had worked as a clerk at the former C. Ches. Hall & Son Insurance Company for 27 years before her retirement in 1987. She was a devoted member of Calvin Presbyterian Church in Ellwood City where she served as an Elder of Session, Deacon, and was an actively involved member of the Sewing Circle and the Women’s Association. She also enjoyed gardening and was an ardent volunteer for the Ellwood City Meals on Wheels Program.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Cello, who died August 21, 1957 and her long-time friend, Russell Newman, who died in February 2005.

She was also preceded by four brothers and three sisters: Albert, George, Carl, and August Lashinsky, Ann Lashinsky, Margaret Kinson, and Isabel Manzo.

She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law: Georgia (and Donald) Rebich of Ocala, FL and Cathy Munkatchy of Ellwood City, as well as her beloved cat, Maggie.

Also surviving are two grandchildren, Jarrod Michael and Christopher Ryan Rebich, and a great-grandson, Holden Rebich. A brother, Thomas Lashinsky of Brooksville, FL, a niece, Mary (and John) Funk, of Ellwood City, and a great-nephew, Jacob Funk, also survive.

Friends will be received from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. on Monday, January 18, 2010 in the TURNER FUNERAL HOME of Ellwood City, Sixth Street at Park Avenue. Friends may also call from 10 A.M. until the time of service at 11 A.M. on Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at Calvin Presbyterian Church, 615 Crescent Avenue, Ellwood City, with her pastor, Rev. James Latta, officiating.

Interment will follow in Locust Grove Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made, in Mary’s name, to Calvin Presbyterian Church.
