Robert B. Gordon

Robert B. Gordon, 81, of 509 Wood Street, Ellwood City, passed away on Thursday morning, October 22 2009, in the Passavant Retirement Community in Zelienople.

He was born in Ellwood City on February 21 1928 to the late Norville J. and Attie Dunfield Gordon.

He graduated from Lincoln High School, Ellwood City, and was a veteran of the US Navy, serving from 1945-47.

He was a machinist for over 29 years before retirement at the former Babcock and Wilcox Co., at the Koppel Steel mill.

He was a member of Calvin Presbyterian Church in Ellwood City, where he served as an usher.

He had also served as a member of the Ellwood City Volunteer Fire Department, and Ellwood City Saxons. He also had bowled and enjoyed ballroom dancing, woodworking, and playing pool. Currently, he belonged to the Ellwood City Historical Society and F.& A.M. #599, Ellwood Lodge, and New Castle Consistory. Above all, he took great pride in his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of over 54 years, Janice M. Bestwick Gordon, who died on December 3 2001, and by one son, Norville J. “Tim” Gordon on December 9 1972.

He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law: Carol A. and Charles Garbett of Ellwood City; and Donna J. and Dr. James Blaine of Slippery Rock.

Six grandchildren also survive: Patrick and Colleen Blaine; Lindsay Bowman; Jennifer Savard; and Leslie and Kelly Garbett.

Two great grandchildren, Jacob Savard and Payton Bowman also survive. He is also survived by a special friend, Margaret Suit.

The last of his family, he was preceded by two brothers and two sisters: Gray and Donald Gordon; and Delight Loveridge, and Jean Mougenot.

Friends will be received from 5-8 P.M. on Friday, October 23, 2009 in the TURNER FUNERAL HOME OF ELLWOOD CITY, Sixth Street at Park Avenue.

A Celebration of Life service will be conducted at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, October 24, 2009 in the Calvin Presbyterian Church, Ellwood City, with the Rev. James Latta, pastor, officiating.

Burial will be in Slippery Rock Church Cemetery, Wayne Twp.

Memorials may be made in his name to the Ellwood City Area Public Library, 510 Crescent Avenue, or to the Calvin Presbyterian Church - Board of Deacons, 615 Crescent Avenue, Ellwood City PA 16117.
