James H. Weston, Jr.

James H. Weston, Jr., 89, of Cooperstown, PA, formerly of Ellwood City, passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, January 31, 2015 at UPMC Northwest in Seneca following a brief illness.

He was born in Ellwood City on November 13, 1925 to the late James Howard Weston, Sr. and the late Sarah Catherine O’Conner Weston. He served in the U.S. Navy in Task Force 92 during WWII aboard the USS Concord CL-10 in the Aleutian Islands and received the Pacific Theater Ribbon (1 star), the American Theater Ribbon, and the WWII Victory Medal. He worked at the former Babcock and Wilcox and retired from the former Ellwood Works of U.S. Steel. James was a devoted Pittsburgh Steelers fan and enjoyed camping and loved country music. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth E. McNutt Weston, who passed away on December 13, 1976, by his daughter, Audrey Mae Weston, on August 8, 2013, and by his granddaughter, Amanda Davis on March 10, 1991. The last of his family, he was also preceded by thirteen brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his wife, Leona Fenner Weston, whom he married July 1, 1993. He is also survived by his children, Linda (and Fred) Heaberlin of Adrian, PA and Sandy (and Robert) Bowen of Boardman, OH, as well as his stepchildren, Ruth (and Alan) Overland of Sagle, ID, Jeff Davis of Anchorage, AK, and Matt Davis (and fiancé Kim Dykes) of Rimersburg, PA. Thirteen grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren also survive.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. on Tuesday, February 3, 2015 in the TURNER FUNERAL HOME of Ellwood City, Sixth Street at Park Avenue.

Services will be conducted at 11 A.M. on Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at TURNER’S with Rev. Peggy Mortimer, visiting minister with the Jerusalem United Church of Christ, officiating.

Members of the Veterans Honor Guard are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:45 A.M. the morning of the service to conduct full military rites.

Interment will be in Harmony Baptist Cemetery, Slippery Rock Township.

Memorial contributions may be made, in James’ name, to the American Cancer Society.
