Gladys I. Harshman

Gladys I. Harshman, 75, of Fort Myers, FL, formerly of Franklin Township ( Ellwood City) passed away unexpectedly on Thursday morning, October 9, 2014 at her residence in Fort Myers.

Gladys was born in Ellwood City on November 15, 1938 to the late Arthur E. Harshman and the late Emma I. Brown Harshman. She graduated from Lincoln High School in the class of 1956 and from Nyack College in Nyack, NY in 1962. She completed her graduate studies at SUNY in Oneonta, NY and the University of Pittsburgh. Gladys worked as a teacher for the Ellwood City Area School District from 1967-2001.
She was a longtime member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, where she served as church librarian, Sunday school teacher, and Stamp Ministry coordinator. She was also a member of the Womans Club Unlimited and past president of Business and Professional Women.

Gladys loved the Lord Jesus Christ and her heart was for worldwide missions.

She is survived by her brother, Rev. G. Arthur (and Doris) Harshman of Clarks Summit, PA, as well as three nieces and one nephew: Sara (and Ben) August, and Joy and Sonja Harshman, and James (and Nikki) Harshman; one great nephew, Jacob August; and two great nieces: Calista August and Alyssa Harshman.

A private graveside service will be conducted in the chapel at Sylvania Hills Memorial Park in Rochester on Friday, October 24 at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. James O’Hara of the Castlewood Alliance Church officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made, in Gladys’ name, to the City Rescue Mission, P.O. Box 965, New Castle, PA 16103-0965., or to a charity of the donors’ choice.
