Margaret M. Czerpak

Margaret M. Czerpak, 93, of Portersville, formerly of Ellport, passed away peacefully early Sunday morning, June 29, 2014 at UPMC Passavant Hospital in McCandless Township.

Born in Burgettstown, PA on July 6, 1920, she was the daughter of the late George and Suzanne Sovich Pavuk. Margaret attended Lincoln High School and graduated from Madison Felix Beauty Academy in Pittsburgh, PA.

Married in 1965 to the late Anthony Czerpak, she was preceded in death, in addition to her parents and husband, by her brothers George, William, and John Pavuk and Nicholas Pavick, and her sisters Mary and Eva in infancy, and Julia Turok and Kathryn Scala.

In addition to being a hairdresser, she worked at the Dust Proof Mattress Factory in Ellport for over 20 years. During WWII, while living in California, she worked at Douglas Aircraft.

Margaret devoted many years of her life to lovingly taking care of family members. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, taking care of family pets, and being an exceptional homemaker.

Before becoming a member of St. Elias Orthodox Church, she was a member of St. John’s Orthodox Church in Ellwood City until it closed.

She is survived by nieces and nephews Andrea (and Phil) DeCaria, Karen (and Dan) Kielar, David (and JoAnn) Scala, Brian (and Della) Scala, Jack (and Toni) Turok, and Philip (and Susan) Turok; great nieces and nephews Michele DeCola, Kimberly DeCaria, Susan Valenti, Wendy Parkin, Kathleen Bender, Christine Walters, Brianna Scala, Blake Scala, Benjamin Scala, Mark Turok, Terri Turok, and Shannon Turok; as well as seven great-great-nieces and nephews. She is also survived by three stepchildren: Glen, Anthony, and Peggy Czerpak.

Friends will be received from 9-11:30 A.M. on Thursday, July 3, 2014 in the TURNER FUNERAL HOME of Ellwood City, Sixth Street at Park Avenue.

Services will follow at 12 noon on Thursday at St. Elias Orthodox Church, 425 Cherry Way, Ellwood City, with Rev. Fr. John Schmidt, her pastor, officiating.

Interment will follow in Locust Grove Cemetery, North Sewickley Township.

Memorial contributions, in Margaret’s name, may be made to your local humane society.
