Bernice E. Lutz

Bernice E. Lutz, 93, of Ellwood City, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday evening, October 23, 2013 in the Ellwood City Hospital.

She was born in Ambridge on April 22, 1920 to the late Sherman Gifford and the late Mary Ann Rambo Gifford. She married her late husband of 50 years, Joseph W. Lutz, on September 2, 1938. He preceded her in death on November 11, 1988. She had attended Park Gate Baptist Church and enjoyed quilt-making, knitting, and arts and crafts.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three daughters, Bernice L. Ruby, Tammy Sue Reich, and Patty Jane Lutz, in infancy, as well as her grandson, Mark Cooper. She was also preceded by three brothers and three sisters: James Gifford, Wayne Gifford, Lawrence Gifford, Mary Lou Southern, Lorena Lutz, and Leona Jenkins.

She is survived by three sons and five daughters: Carol Jean Cooper, Charlotte L. Edinger, Joseph William (and Joyce) Lutz, Jr., Harriet (and Duke) Campbell, Mary Ann (and George) Parker, Bonnie K. Lutz, and Edward C. Lutz, all of Ellwood City, and Richard D. (and Kathy) Lutz of Beaver Falls. She is also survived by 33 grandchildren, 50 great grandchildren, and ten great great grandchildren, and a brother and four sisters: Arthur (and Eleanor) Gifford of Parkersburg, WV, Janet (and Joseph) Schied of East Palestine, OH, Mildred Minich of Ohio, Opal Hose of Davenport, FL, and Florence (and Charles) Bowles of Negley, OH.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. on Sunday, October 27, 2013 in the TURNER FUNERAL HOME of Ellwood City, Sixth Street at Park Avenue.

Services will be conducted at 11 A.M. on Monday, October 28, 2013 at TURNER’S.

Interment will be in Sylvania Hills Memorial Park, Rochester.
