Nicholas R. Pavick

Nicholas R. Pavick, 89, of Rhodes Estates, New Castle, formerly of Ickesburg, PA, passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, June 1, 2013 at Rhodes Estates.

He was born in Burgettstown, PA on December 18, 1923 to the late George Pavuk and Suzanne Sovich Pavuk. He graduated from Lincoln High School in the class of 1942 and served in the U.S. Navy during WWII as an Aviation Machinist’s Mate aboard the USS Saratoga. After returning from the war, he attended the Triangle School of Drafting in Pittsburgh and received his BS in Industrial Engineering from Geneva College in 1956. Nick worked as a hydrologist for the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration and the National Weather Service. He had a love of nature and enjoyed taking walks and birdwatching at his home in the mountains. He was also an avid sports fan and enjoyed playing golf.

In addition to his parents, Nick was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters: George, John, and William Pavick (Pavuk), Julia Turok, and Kathryn Scala.

He is survived by his sister, Margaret Czerpak, of Portersville, nieces and nephews Andrea (and Phil) DeCaria, Karen (and Dan) Kielar, David (and JoAnn) Scala, Brian (and Della) Scala, Jack (and Toni) Turok, and Philip (and Susan) Turok; great nieces and nephews Michele DeCola, Kimberly DeCaria, Susan Valenti, Wendy Parkin, Cathleen Bender, Christine Walters, Brianna, Blake, and Benjamin Scala, and Mark, Terri, and Shannon Turok; and seven great great nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received from noon until the time of service at 1 P.M. on Tuesday, June 4, 2013 in the TURNER FUNERAL HOME of Ellwood City, Sixth Street at Park Avenue, with family member Deacon Dan Kieler, of St. Camillus Church in New Castle, officiating.

Interment will follow in Locust Grove Cemetery, North Sewickley Township.

Memorial contributions may be made, in Nick’s name, to the donor’s local humane society.
