Glaudino A. "Claude" Ialongo

Glaudino A. “Claude” Ialongo, 94, of Madison Avenue, Ellwood City, passed away peacefully into the arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday morning, May 8, 2013 at Northview Estates.

He was born in Ellwood City on October 28, 1918 to the late Vittorio Ialongo and the late Archangelo Colecchio Ialongo. He was a graduate of Lincoln High School in the class of 1935 and served in the U.S. Army during WWII, from 1941-1945, as a Sergeant with the 34th Combat Engineers. He was stationed in the Schofield Barracks during the attack on Pearl Harbor. He participated in the invasion of Saipan and Tinian and received two bronze stars, a unit citation for the campaign known as the Marianas, and the Good Conduct Medal. Claude and his late wife of over 64 years, Marie Domenica Nocera Ialongo, were married on August 17, 1946. She preceded him in death on September 12, 2010. He worked as an independent contractor, building over 30 homes in the Ellwood City area. He was a bricklayer and carpenter and specialized in fireplaces, hardwood floors, custom finishing, kitchens and cabinets, roofing, and cement finishing. Claude was a longtime active member of the Ellwood City Christian Assembly Church, where he served as Deacon and treasurer. He was an avid fan of the Pirates and the Steelers, enjoyed vegetable gardening and tending to his fig trees, and had a passion for golfing.

The last of his family, he was preceded in death, in addition to his parents and wife, by three brothers and a sister, Ernest, Enrico, and Nick Ialongo (in childhood) and Regina Murphy.

Claude is survived by two sons and two daughters: Victor (and Janice) Ialongo, David (and Lydia) Ialongo, and Claudia Ialongo, all of Ellwood City, and Patrice (and Craig) Luchansky of Allison Park. Six grandchildren also survive: Cara (and Ben) Huth, Marisa (and Steve) Mandel, Sara (and Kevin) Huber, Matthew (and Anna) Luchanksy, and Jonathan and Nicole Luchansky, as well as seven great grandchildren: Vanessa, Giovanna, and Aden Huth, Jordyn, Levi, and Ryann Mandel, and Hugh Luchansky.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. on Friday, May 10, 2013 in the TURNER FUNERAL HOME of Ellwood City, Sixth Street at Park Avenue.

Friends may also call from 10 A.M. until the time of service at 11 A.M. on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at TURNER’S with Rev. Matthew Bupp, pastor of the Ellwood City Christian Assembly Church and Rev. Geno DeMarco of the New Brighton Christian Assembly Church officiating.

Full military rites will be conducted at the funeral home by the Veterans Honor Guard.

Entombment will follow in Slippery Rock Cemetery Mausoleum, Wayne Township.
