John DeWitt Krepps, Sr.

John DeWitt Krepps, Sr., 84, of North Sewickley Township, passed away peacefully on Friday morning, April 19, 2013 in UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh.

He was born in North Sewickley on September 15, 1928 to the late Charles W. Krepps, Sr., and the late Florence L. Bennett Krepps. He graduated from Beaver Falls High School and was a member of Providence Baptist Church, where he had served as a deacon. John married his wife of 65 years, Thelma R. Forbush Krepps, on April 9, 1948. She survives. He and his wife were the founders of J&T Custard Stand in North Sewickley. John enjoyed wintering in Florida with his wife, was an avid golfer, and enjoyed mowing the grass, sometimes several times a week.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Gail Ann Krepps, on May 6, 1977. The last of his family, he was also preceded, in addition to his parents, by his brother, Charles W. Krepps, Jr. on February 27, 2011, and his sister, Anona Ruth Krepps Harper on July 10, 1974. His granddaughter-in-law, Jill Body Krepps, also preceded him in death on December 5, 2009.

In addition to his wife, Thelma R. Forbush Krepps, he is survived by his son, J. DeWitt (and Donna) Krepps, Jr., of North Sewickley, as well as two grandchildren, J.D. Krepps III and Amy E. Krepps Frederiksen, and two great grandchildren, Owen DeWitt Krepps and Petra E. Frederiksen.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-9 P.M. on Monday, April 22, 2013 in the TURNER FUNERAL HOME of Ellwood City, Sixth Street at Park Avenue.

Services will be conducted at 11 A.M. on Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at Providence Baptist Church, 201 Chapel Drive, Ellwood City, with Rev. Calvin Cummins, interim pastor, officiating.

Interment will be in North Sewickley Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made, in John’s name, to Providence Baptist Church or to the American Bible Society.
