Marian Malik Homner

Marian Malik Homner, 91, of Ellwood City, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday morning, February 1, 2013 in the Ellwood City Hospital.

She was born in Rankin, Allegheny County, on September 9, 1921 to the late George Malik and the late Mary Holub Malik. She attended Lincoln High School and worked briefly as a taxi driver and also for the Ellwood City Knitting Mill and Leeds & Northrop. She married her late husband of 56 years, Michael Homner, Sr., on October 4, 1941. He preceded her in death on September 4, 1997. Marian was a member of Holy Redeemer Roman Catholic Parish in Ellwood City and was known for her green thumb. She enjoyed gardening and caring for her houseplants and flowers.

The last of her family, she was preceded in death, in addition to her parents and husband, by a brother in infancy, as well as three brothers and one sister: George, John, and Michael Malik, and Elizabeth Wojtkiewicz.

She is survived by two daughter and three sons: Marian (and Bruce) Arkwright and Martin J. (and Valerie) Homner, all of Ellwood City, Andrew G. (and Vicki) Homner of North Sewickley, Michael Homner of Rockford, IL, and Stephanie (and Neil “Pete”) Rose of New Brighton. She is also survived by twelve grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.

A blessing service will be held at 11 A.M. on Monday, February 4, 2013 in the TURNER FUNERAL HOME of Ellwood City, Sixth Street at Park Avenue, with Rev. Fr. Okechukwu Camillus Njoku officiating.

Burial will be in Locust Grove Cemetery, North Sewickley Township.

Memorial contributions may be made, in Marian’s name, to the donor’s favorite charity.
