Esther A. Kati

Esther A. Kati, 88, of Zelienople, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday afternoon, March 14, 2012 in the Evergreen Nursing Center in Harmony following a lengthy illness.

She was born in Ellwood City on July 9, 1923 to the late Frank Cortez and the late Filomena Keevis Cortez. She attended Lincoln High School and was a member of St. Gregory Parish Church in Zelienople. She married her husband of 60 years, John B. Kati, on March 31, 1951.

Esther loved playing bingo and played frequently at the SOI and Holy Redeemer Parish as well as super bingo at St. Gregory’s. She also enjoyed bowling and gardening.

The last of her family, she was preceded in death by four sisters and eight brothers: Rose Straw, Verna Barkette, Anna Rozzo, Catherine Calderone, and David, Adolph, Elmer, Edward, Sam, John, James “Froggie,” and Frank Cortez.

In addition to her husband, John B. Kati, she is survived by two daughters, Sherry (and Tracy) Mulhollen and Janet (and Bruce) Patrick, all of Ellwood City. She is also survived by three grandsons, Chris and Scott Mulhollen and Cody Patrick.

Friends will be received from 1 P.M. until the time of a Blessing Service at 2 P.M. on Saturday, March 17, 2012 in the TURNER FUNERAL HOME of Ellwood City, Sixth Street at Park Avenue.

Entombment will follow in Zelienople Community Mausoleum.

Memorial contributions may be made, in Esther’s name, to the American Heart Association.
