Eva Pica McCowin

Eva Pica McCowin, 76, of Ellwood City, passed away surrounded by her sons on Friday morning, July 15, 2011 in the Ellwood City Hospital. She was born in Ellwood City on May 3, 1935 to the late Sisto Pica and the late Maria Pica.

Eva was a graduate of Lincoln High School and married her husband of 46 years, James E. McCowin, on October 28, 1953. He preceded her in death October 11, 1999. She was a member of Holy Redeemer Parish and worked as a cashier at Ames and Rite Aid Pharmacy, formerly Eckerd Drug, for many years, until retiring. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, playing cards, and good conversation and laughter.

The last of her family, she was preceded in death, in addition to her parents and husband by three brothers and three sisters.

She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, James R. McCowin and Christopher (and Lori A.) McCowin, all of Ellwood City, as well as two granddaughters, Lauren (and Kevin) Mazzanti and Lindsay McCowin. She is also survived by a brother-in-law, James R. Rosaci.

Friends will be received on Sunday, July 17, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. in the TURNER FUNERAL HOME of Ellwood City, Sixth Street at Park Avenue.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10 A.M. on Monday, July 18, 2011 in the Holy Redeemer Parish Church, Ellwood City. Interment will follow in Locust Grove Cemetery, North Sewickley Township.

Those attending the mass are asked to meet at the funeral home at 9:15 A.M. as the procession to the church will begin to leave at 9:30.

Memorial contributions may be made, in Eva’s name, to the American Heart Association or the Ellwood City Library.
