Mabel I. Burns

Mabel Irene Burns, 90, of 626 Palo Alto Drive, Ellwood City (Perry Township), passed away peacefully early Thursday evening, April 28, 2011 at Edison Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in New Castle.

She was born in Johnsonburg, PA on December 29, 1920 to the late Marion A. Vesco and the late Ima A. Smith Vesco. She was a graduate of Lincoln High School and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Ellwood City. She worked at Aetna-Standard Engineering during WWII and also as a teller at Ellwood Federal Savings and Loan (now ESB Bank). She was a member of the Do and Save Club at the First Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death, in addition to her parents, by her husband of 50 years, Charles L. Burns, whom she married August 3, 1940 and who passed away March 14, 1991.

She was also preceded by her brother, James L. Vesco.

She is survived by two sons, Charles J. Burns of Ellwood City and Allen R. (and Gloria) Burns of Sewell, NJ. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Robin Kimberly Burns and Scott M. Burns of Sewell, NJ, as well as her special friend Robert Aiken of Monroeville and numerous nieces and nephews.

No public visitation is planned. A private funeral service will be conducted on Sunday, May 1, 2011 in the TURNER FUNERAL HOME of Ellwood City, Sixth Street at Park Avenue.

Interment will be in Locust Grove Cemetery, North Sewickley Township.

Memorial contributions may be made, in Mabel’s name, to the National Kidney Foundation, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, or the American Heart Association.
