Charles J. Belonzi, Sr.

Charles J. Belonzi, Sr., 85, of Ellwood City, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, June 23 at 5:05 A.M. at the Jameson Memorial Hospital in New Castle after a long illness.

He was born in Beaver Falls, PA on February 11, 1925 to the late John and Mary Belonzi.

He was a salesman for the former Valley Wholesale Co. in Beaver Falls for 35 years until retiring.

A longtime member of Holy Redeemer Parish, he was a for many years a Eucharistic minister and a member of the Holy Name Society.

He was chief promoter for the Men's Retreats at St. Paul’s Retreat House on the Southside of Pittsburgh until 2007.

Active in athletics in Ellwood City, he was Commissioner of Ellwood City Baseball program from 1967 until 1973, and coached St. Agatha elementary school basketball for several years. He was also an avid golfer and bowler.

He is survived by his wife of over 63 years, Anna Fusco Belonzi. Also surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law: Charles J. (and Dottie) Belonzi of Wexford, PA; Gary (and Terri) Belonzi of Phoenixville, PA; and Jeffrey (and Kathy) Belonzi of Ellwood City.

Eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren also survive, as well as two sisters, Amelia “Millie” and Mary Alice in Alaska.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. on Monday June 28 in the TURNER FUNERAL HOME OF ELLWOOD CITY, Sixth Street at Park Avenue, Ellwood City.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 29 at 10:00 A.M. in the Holy Redeemer Parish Church, Ellwood City.

Burial will be in Locust Grove Cemetery, North Sewickley Township.
