Merle Dean Young

Merle Dean Young, 60, of Shippenville passed away on Tuesday, February 3rd, 2026, at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh. He was the son of the late Bernard “Boots” and Delores June Rhodes Young and was born December 11, 1965, in Clarion.

He is survived by his son Matthew Young his fiancé Kasey of Shippenville, another son; Cody Young and his fiancé Tristen Kovarik of Cantis, OH, his grandchildren; Chloe, Rosa, Maddox, Daimon, Asher, his sisters; Louella Neiswonger and her husband Randy and Brenda Hartman and her husband Jim.

He was a graduate of Redbank High School in New Bethlehem. He was a farmer on the family farm and he actually saved his father’s life when he was trapped in a corn picker, which led him to his life of service as a Paramedic for over 37 years. He also drove school busses before he became a Paramedic where he served Clarion and Jefferson counties as well as the communities of Sugar Creek and Petrolia. He was an avid deer hunter and just recently he had gotten it to fly fishing and making his on fly fishing lures. He was also an avid gardener. He was a loving father and grandfather and he was a loving friend to so very many people.

He was preceded in death by his brother Leland Mark Young.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Cremation arrangements entrusted to the Turner-Hyde Funeral Home located at 6th and Park in Ellwood City.
