Amy Whitney

January 13, 1964 — July 12, 2025

Saint Albans, WV

Amy Whitney was born on January 13, 1964, and passed away on July 12, 2025, under the Capricorn moon, at UPMC, with her daughter by her side. Amy is survived by her mother, Anita McDonie, her stepfather, Larry Loftis, her daughter, Marisa Whitney, and her siblings, Laura, Jimmy (& Cheri), Denise, and Scott (& Kathy) McDonie as well as many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and her cherished animals. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Ralph and Mabel Curry, and Arthur and Edith Bliss, her father, Jim McDonie, and her sisters, Marcia McDonie and Donna McDonie and her beloved cat, Jasmine.

Amy grew up in St. Albans, WV, as the cherished baby of seven children. From a young age, she showed a remarkable aptitude for math and possessed a quick wit that endeared her to many. She was always surrounded by a group of friends, sharing laughter and adventures. After graduating from Charleston Catholic in 1983, Amy ventured to Clearwater, Florida, in 1984. There, she relished spending time with her sisters and her beloved niece, Rachel. With a deep appreciation for the simple joys in life, nothing made her happier than a sunny day spent relaxing on the beach. She thrived as a successful bartender and waitress, until she embraced motherhood with the arrival of her daughter, Marisa, in 1994.

Amy dedicated her life to her family and beloved animals, offering them her unwavering devotion. A passionate lover of cats and music, she found joy in attending countless concerts, with Pearl Jam holding a special place in her heart. She had an eye for trends and fashion, always embracing the latest styles. Her garden and plants were always well cared for and so happy. A diet coke was never far from her side, a simple comfort she always had on hand. Amy selflessly cared for her grandmother and parents and showered her daughter with endless affection.

“My mom loved me more than anything in this world. She made me feel loved every day and shared it with all who knew her. She knew me unlike anyone else and was always there for me. She supported me in everything I've ever done and has always told me she was proud of me. Just being in her presence brought me great comfort and I will miss her for the rest of my life. She was always thinking of her family, picking us up little things we would like and come to use all the time. She could always pick up on little things you needed before you even knew. There are no words to accurately express who she was as a person. There will never be another like her. "Though she be but little she was fierce." My mom always told me I was her angel, and I certainly hope she will always be mine and guide me in this life. I am forever grateful for the love, care, fun, and comfort my mother provided me.”

Thank you for fighting so hard for me. I'll see you later, mommy. - Marisa
